This toe-up short-row sock worksheet uses gauge plus a basic series of measurements to provide a custom fit.

Don’t limit yourself to stockinette! Instead, select a textured rib or stitch pattern for the top of the foot and the ankle.

Just make sure that your adjusted number of stitches works with your chosen pattern.

When you first visit this page it seems daunting but persevere follow along and you will create your very own custom sock pattern.

Use this tool for a custom toe-up sock pattern using a short row heel and toe.

NOTE: Before beginning, knit and measure your gauge swatch in stockinette. Be sure you’re happy with the fabric. For best fit, socks should be knit quite densely compared to a sweater or scarf. Select a gauge, needle, and shoe size from the boxes below and click “Make My Pattern!”. The pattern will be generated and loaded into a new browser window. Print and cast on!

This can be downloaded for free from Ravelry. You can adjust this pattern for any size, any gauge.

Measure around the ball of your foot. Multiply the number of inches you get by the number of stitches you get per inch when you do a gauge swatch. Then subtract 10% from that total. Fudge your number so it’s divisible by 4. This will make a nice, snug-fitting sock. This pattern is written using 60 stitches around for the sock, with changes for 64 stitches in parentheses.
